CAUSE OF CONFLICT BETWEEN CATHOLICS AND ORTHODOX
There are many causes of ‘conflict’ between these two divisions. Mostly because of the theological beliefs and the arguing of who is right and who is wrong. These two divisions argue who is the right dominion of Christianity and therefore cause ‘conflict’.
The Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church have been in state of schism since the events of 1054 –the east-west schism. The causes of this breach were centuries in the making and stemmed to a considerable extent from cultural and political derived from the increasing isolation of the Latin scholarly of the West and the Greek scholarly culture of the Byzantine Empire.
A cause of conflict between these two divisions is purely the language used. The Orthodox Church was using the Greek language, which many of the early theological works and commentaries of Christianity were written. The Western Church used Latin as its medium and as knowledge of Greek declined among western scholars and the Western Church became increasingly dependant on theological works written in its own language and often-imperfect translations from the Greeks.
